Once a year, Humboldt County, CA (here) sponsors THE TOUR OF THE UNKNOWN COAST, what could be the world's most beautiful and/or most difficult bicycle tour, followed by (what some have called) the world's worst bike tour food.

It's worth it. I will be riding with the usual suspects from my Sunday riding group, The Latte Warriors. Rich Lesnick, the Rivendell wheel builder, will join us.

I'm doing the 100 K, which does NOT include the unbelievably steep and endless hills out by the Pacific. Look, these hills are hard in a CAR, and remain so on every day of the year in any weather and despite the soporific elevator music in the slide show. I know a guy who crested one of the 5,000 foot summits only to be literally blown over by powerful west winds coming off the Pacific.

Rich will ride the Whole Enchilada, as will a few of the Latte Warriors. As they say in LA, OHMYGOD!
