Steps with bike rail
The Dutch expect to take their bikes almost everywhere--so the infrastructure is accommodating. This is my friend Joost during a ride we took through Amsterdam. He rides his bike to his law office on a regular basis.
By way of catching up, would your kids still fit into one of these bakfiets?
This was the "child safe" model (another version is at the bottom of this page) and it even had little seat belts. Less safe, were the models with infant seats on the handlebars--which brought me to the question: if you want the bicycle to be ubiquitous, how many safety regulations can you expect to impose on people? Virtually every Dutch mother rides a bike...
Hi Gordon,
ReplyDeleteYes, but do the Dutch us their bakfeits for treeplanting?
