Aleutian Geese, Arcata

Every year tens of thousands of Aleutian Geese stop here to fatten up for a few weeks before flying north to their summer home in Alaska. When they leave, the flight takes them 2,500 miles over the open Pacific--with no land at all.

It's make it or die.

I heard they were feeding near The Bayside Cutoff, a road south of Arcata near the bay, so I tossed my Nikon in a backpack and pedaled south...
