The League of American Bicyclists sponsors this worthwhile program. So far 84 communities across the country have qualified; if you ride a bike life will be easier for you in any one of them. Arcata is beginning on the "Bronze" level, which leaves plenty of room for improvement. Here's a link to other bicycling friendly communities across the USA. Hopefully, there is one near you.
