Full disclosure time: I drove to Crater Lake. My hat is off to the few cyclists I saw on the way up, however the combination of heat, altitude and steep grade make such a ride an unsuitable activity for my age group.
The lake itself remains hidden until the last possible moment. Finally, you step up to the rim--at which point, as they say in LA, "Ohmygod!!!
