I saw velomobiles zipping around the bikeways of Holland. Some were experimental and strange looking. Most seemed to be made by small Dutch companies and they were quite expensive. Every velomobile rider (driver?) I saw seemed to have a big smile on his face. They carried luggage, audio equipment, even tour books--and seemed to relish long haul touring. Now Greenspeed is getting into the act with a velomobile that could make these great machines affordable to more cyclists.
Launched last week at Interbike Trade Exposition, the Greenspeed Velomobile is meant to be "more desirable than a car." and uses "less than 1/100th of the energy needed to run a car."
For many years we at Greenspeed have been working on a dream I had of producing a viable green alternative to the motor car. I wanted something that was so advanced that it made cars obsolete, something so much more efficient that it would use less than 100th of the energy needed to run a car.
